“When we see the baby and hear the melodies of “O Holy Night,” we must strain to hear beyond the notes that capture a moment so that we can hear the symphony of a life lived in love and the final promise, “I am with you always even until the end of time.”

Sometimes, we all feel distant from God, but this feeling is fleeting for most. For others, God’s absence lasts not weeks but years and years.

Sometimes, the hardest part is looking up to see the Son of Man when all we know is hurt. But if we can force ourselves to look up in the moments of hurt, Jesus will be there.

Only with open hands and hearts can we become one people, one community, the echo of God’s love on earth.

Wealth is not what we have or what we own. Wealth is what owns us. Wealth is what possesses us.

Thank you for being here to remind us that life and human love are not perfect. When mistakes are made, sometimes the only way to correct them is to walk away from a relationship or a marriage. 

We need not cut off our hands or pluck out our eyes. Jesus asks us to excise the attitudes behind our actions from our hearts and souls.
