Prison Ministry

Jail and Prison Ministry (Peace & Social Justice) Men and women volunteers from Sacred Heart Catholic Church go the Charlotte County jail on Sundays to take Communion to inmates. They conduct a prescribed service which may be enhanced with additional readings from Scripture. It is common for Christians of any/all denominations to attend. Volunteers spend from one to three hours at the jail. There is also a prison in Charlotte County which needs people to tend to inmates’ spiritual needs. The environment is more restrictive than that of the jail. Those interested in serving at either/both institutions must be processed through the Jail/Prison (Peace & Justice) Ministry Office of the Diocese of Venice.

“Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, you do unto me; I was in prison and you visited Me..”  (Matt. 25:40)
