Our Morning with Bishop Emilio
On Saturday, July 25, our parish community had the joy of welcoming our new Bishop, Bishop Emilio, to Sacred Heart. He celebrated the morning Mass alongside our new Administrator, Father Russell Wright; our Parochial Vicar, Father Mario Kono; Father Fritz; and Deacon Michael Guy.
The Mass was celebrated on the Feast of St. James the Apostle. In honor of the occasion, our staff and talented volunteers beautifully decorated the church and Parish Hall with shells and other symbols associated with St. James.
During his homily, Bishop Emilio reflected on devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and shared memories of his time at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Washington, D.C. Rory and our musicians sang Rory’s new composition based on Bishop Emilio’s motto “Ite ad Joseph” (Latin for ‘Go to Joseph’).
Following Mass, the Guild of Our Lady and the Knights of Columbus hosted a breakfast reception, where parishioners enjoyed a warm welcome and an engaging question-and-answer session with Bishop Emilio. He shared fascinating firsthand stories from his years of missionary service in Papua, New Guinea and Cuba, as well as personal reflections about his family, including his six sisters. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful turnout and warm welcome from our parish community.
We are grateful for this special opportunity to welcome Bishop Emilio to Sacred Heart and look forward to his leadership and ministry among us.
