None of us Lives our Faith Alone

It is easy to think that where we are today in our faith journey is good enough.

EZ 47:1-9,12

Psalm  46

John 5: 1-15

In the Gospel today, Jesus cures a man who, for 38 years, has been laying by the healing pool of Bethsaida.  He has been trying to get to the pool to be healed.   When Jesus sees him, he asks a question, “Do you want to be healed?”  The man answers yes, but he can’t get to the pool alone, and he has no one to help him.  This reminded me of our dependence on one another.  The man could not get to the healing water alone; he needed help.  For 38 years, he waited for someone to help him.

How true this is for all of us.  None of us lives our faith alone.  None of us makes it to the loving embrace of God alone.  We must help one another on the way.  We all need assistance and inspiration, making our way to God.  It is easy to get lost or waylaid.  It is easy to think that where we are today in our faith journey is good enough.  It isn’t, and we are misleading ourselves if we believe God wants nothing more from us.  God can do more in us than we can ask or imagine, and He wants to do more.

Let’s all take some time today to think about the people who have helped us on our faith journey.   Who helped you up when you were down and called you back to the right path when you wandered?  Let us today praise God and thank him for those who have been guides on our faith journey.
